The email backend passes the user-supplied SMTP\nhost and port from a notification template directly to the SMTP client without validating that\nthe target is not an internal, loopback, link-local, or reserved address. An authenticated user\nwith organization notification-admin permission can create or modify an email notification\ntemplate pointing at an arbitrary internal address, trigger a test, and have the controller task\nprocess open a raw TCP connection to that address. The resulting connection error is reflected\nback through the notification record, providing a three-state internal port-scan oracle (open,\nclosed, filtered) over the control-plane's cluster network, including the in-cluster Kubernetes\nAPI. When a shared organization template holds a stored SMTP password, redirecting the host can\nalso cause that credential to be transmitted to an attacker-controlled server.\n\n## Remediation\n\nRefer to the linked advisories for vendor-supplied fixes and affected version ranges.\n\n## Vendor advisories\n\n- **RHSA-2026:71177** · Red Hat · fixed in: Red Hat Ansible Automation Platform 2.7 · released 2026-09-23 · [advisory](https://access.redhat.com/errata/RHSA-2026:71177)\n- **Red Hat VEX** · Moderate · affected: Red Hat Ansible Automation Platform 2 · no fix planned: Red Hat Ansible Automation Platform 2 · updated 2026-09-24 · [vex](https://security.access.redhat.com/data/csaf/v2/vex/2026/cve-2026-84721.json)","depth":"sunlit","depthScore":35,"depthScoreParts":{"impact":35.2,"likelihood":0,"exploitation":0,"ransomware":0},"changes":[]}
