From 0.7.0 until 0.8.15, the release-0.8.x parser in lib/sax.js trims captured end-tag names with the unanchored global expression /[ \\t\\n\\r]+$/g. For an end tag containing a long whitespace run followed by a non-whitespace character, the expression retries from each possible starting position and backtracks quadratically before failing its end anchor. DOMParser.parseFromString() reaches the path under default options, allowing a small unauthenticated XML input to stall the Node.js event loop; the 0.9.x and unscoped npm lines do not contain this expression. This issue is fixed in @xmldom/xmldom version 0.8.15.\n\n## Remediation\n\nRefer to the linked advisories for vendor-supplied fixes and affected version ranges.\n\n## Package advisory (CVE-2026-83619)\n\nAffected packages:\n\n- `@xmldom/xmldom >= 0.7.0, <= 0.8.14`\n\nPatched in:\n\n- `@xmldom/xmldom 0.8.15`\n\nSource: https://github.com/advisories/GHSA-x4fp-j954-r2f4\n\n## Vendor advisories\n\n- **RHSA-2026:69248** · Red Hat · fixed in: Red Hat Developer Hub 1.9 · released 2026-09-21 · [advisory](https://access.redhat.com/errata/RHSA-2026:69248)\n- **Red Hat VEX** · Important · affected: Red Hat Build of Podman Desktop, Red Hat Enterprise Linux 10, Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8, Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9, Red Hat Fuse 7, Red Hat OpenShift AI (RHOAI) · no fix planned: Red Hat Fuse 7, Red Hat Build of Podman Desktop, Red Hat Enterprise Linux 10, Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8, … · updated 2026-09-21 · [vex](https://security.access.redhat.com/data/csaf/v2/vex/2026/cve-2026-83619.json)","depth":"twilight","depthScore":41,"depthScoreParts":{"impact":41.3,"likelihood":0.1,"exploitation":0,"ransomware":0},"changes":[{"seq":208466,"id":"CVE-2026-83619","ts":1790005710780,"field":"cvss","old":null,"new":"7.5"}]}
