Unlike the normal system\nsuspend path, the reboot path does not call freeze_processes(), so\nuserspace processes and kernel threads remain active.\n\nThis allows CPU hotplug operations to run concurrently with\ncpufreq_suspend(). The original code has no synchronization with CPU\nhotplug, leading to a race condition where governor_data can be freed\nby the hotplug path while cpufreq_suspend() is still accessing it,\nresulting in a null pointer dereference:\n\n  Unable to handle kernel NULL pointer dereference\n  Call Trace:\n   do_kernel_fault+0x28/0x3c\n   cpufreq_suspend+0xdc/0x160\n   device_shutdown+0x18/0x200\n   kernel_restart+0x40/0x80\n   arm64_sys_reboot+0x1b0/0x200\n\nFix this by adding cpus_read_lock()/cpus_read_unlock() to\ncpufreq_suspend() to block CPU hotplug operations while suspend is in\nprogress.\n\n[ rjw: Changelog edits ]\n\n## Affected\n\n- `linux_kernel >= 4.4.198, < 4.5`\n- `linux_kernel >= 4.9.198, < 4.10`\n- `linux_kernel >= 4.14.151, < 4.15`\n- `linux_kernel >= 4.19.81, < 4.20`\n- `linux_kernel >= 5.3.8, < 5.4`\n- `linux_kernel >= 5.4.1, < 5.10.261`\n- `linux_kernel >= 5.11, < 5.15.212`\n- `linux_kernel >= 5.16, < 6.1.178`\n- `linux_kernel >= 6.2, < 6.6.145`\n- `linux_kernel >= 6.7, < 6.12.96`\n- `linux_kernel >= 6.13, < 6.18.39`\n- `linux_kernel >= 6.19, < 7.1.4`\n- `linux_kernel = 5.4`\n\n## Remediation\n\nUpgrade past the affected range:\n\n- `linux_kernel 7.1.4`\n\n## Vendor advisories\n\n- **Red Hat VEX** · Moderate · affected: Red Hat Enterprise Linux 10, Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6, Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8, Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9 · no fix planned: Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6, Red Hat Enterprise Linux 10, Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8, Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9 · updated 2026-09-08 · [vex](https://security.access.redhat.com/data/csaf/v2/vex/2026/cve-2026-64373.json)","depth":"sunlit","depthScore":26,"depthScoreParts":{"impact":25.9,"likelihood":0,"exploitation":0,"ransomware":0},"changes":[]}
