This read allocates kernel memory and is not accounted for a user that triggers the creation of that ZRAM device. With this vulnerability, continually reading the device may consume a large amount of system memory and cause the Out-of-Memory (OOM) killer to activate and terminate random userspace processes, possibly making the system inoperable.\n\n## Affected\n\n- `linux_kernel < 5.8.0`\n- `linux_kernel = 5.8.0`\n- `debian_linux = 9.0`\n\n## Remediation\n\nUpgrade past the affected range:\n\n- `linux_kernel 5.8.0`\n\n## Vendor advisories\n\n- **Red Hat VEX** · Low · affected: Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5, Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6, Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7, Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8, Red Hat Enterprise MRG 2 · no fix planned: Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5, Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6, Red Hat Enterprise MRG 2, Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7, … · updated 2026-10-08 · [vex](https://security.access.redhat.com/data/csaf/v2/vex/2020/cve-2020-10781.json)","depth":"sunlit","depthScore":30,"depthScoreParts":{"impact":30.3,"likelihood":0.1,"exploitation":0,"ransomware":0},"changes":[]}
